Muhammad Haji, and the first president of Pannikode Panchayat was V.M. Unnimoyi Sahib.Based on the Kerala Panchayat Act of 1960, Koodiyattur Panchayat in its present form was established in 1963, by including the villages of Koodiyattur, Kakkad, and Kumaranellur.
It is said that the present Koodiyattur Panchayat was once a part of the Pannikode region, which was under the rule of the Pulavayi princely state.
The name Koodiyattur is derived from the phrase “Kodikuttiya Oor”, meaning “the land where flags were hoisted.” It is said that there is no land here without a flag — and no ideology that hasn’t found expression here. Koodiyattur is also known as the “Makkah of Kerala”, symbolizing its cultural and spiritual prominence.
The Koodiyattur Juma Masjid, adorned with exquisite wood carvings, is over 700 years old and stands as one of the most ancient historical monuments in the region.
Blessed by the confluence of the Chaliyar River and the Iruvazhinhipuzha River, both originating from the Vellarimala Hills, Koodiyattur is a scenic and fertile land.
Situated at the easternmost tip of Kozhikode district, Koodiyattur Panchayat shares its boundary with Malappuram district.
